So, if you’re hungry for the best food in Key West, let’s dive right into this foodie guide and explore the best restaurants Key West has to offer.
Best Breakfast (and Brunch) in Key West
Blue Heaven
When it comes to breakfast in Key West, this outdoor restaurant is my go-to. Even though you might have to wait for a table (they don’t accept breakfast reservations), it’s well worth it! While I wait, I always walk to their bar across the street for a mimosa and some live music. And don’t worry if you see some chickens and cats roaming around- it’s all part of the charm that makes this place unique. I’ve been told the Lobster Benedict is fantastic, but when it comes to breakfast, I tend to stick to the basics – eggs, potatoes, and bacon. However, I must say that their homemade bread adds an extra touch to my meal and makes it even more delicious.
Ram’s Head
Known for its island vibe atmosphere, Ram’s Head has been acclaimed for having the best Blood Mary bar on the island. They cater to both classic and adventurous tastes, making it the perfect spot for Bloody Mary lovers. Once you’ve crafted your perfect drink, head to the back of the restaurant to enjoy some fun outdoor games and live music. It’s the ideal way to spend a lazy morning in Key West.
Banana Café
French-inspired café serving fluffy croissants, sweet and savory crepes, and decadent French toast. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it the perfect spot to fuel up before a day of exploring.
Best Lunch in Key West
Seaside Café at Mansion on the Sea
If you’re looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy some drinks and an appetizer in Key West, you can’t miss this spot. Its prime location steps from the ocean and tables scattered between palm trees make it the perfect place to unwind and soak up the island vibes. I love their mojitos and conch fritters, but they are famous for their lobster biscuits. The ocean views and coastal dishes make it hard to beat the ambiance here. When Mike, the owner, greets you, don’t hesitate to request a hotel tour. The mansion has a fascinating history. Tip: Keep in mind that there is only outdoor seating, so dress appropriately for the weather. Plenty of seating is available under a pavilion if it’s too hot.
Salute! On the Beach
located on Higg’s Beach, this Italian-inspired café is the perfect setting for a beachside lunch without the hassle of packing up your beach gear. Just steps away from the ocean, it is the perfect spot to enjoy shade from the sun. Forget about lugging coolers or snacks to the beach; Salute! has everything you need. You can even grab a drink from the To Go window if you do not want a full meal.
DJ’s Clam Shack
A laid-back seafood shack on Duval Street with the BEST lobster roll. Seriously, the best lobster roll I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried them all up and down the East Coast. After ordering my food at the window, I sit at the front counter to see the excitement on Key West’s main strip. Head to the picnic tables in the back if you’re looking for something a little quieter.
Bo’s Fish Wagon
A seafood shack famous for its fresh catch of the day served in sandwiches, tacos, and baskets. With its laid-back vibe and tasty eats, it’s a must-visit for seafood lovers.
The Dock’s Restaurant and Raw Bar
Located on a fishing harbor in Stock Island, this restaurant serves up some of my favorite craft cocktails in Key West and has a fun menu. I’m hooked on their grilled calamari and NY-style pastrami swordfish sandwich. While I love the menu, unfortunately, their burger isn’t impressive. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Geiger Key Fish Camp
If you have a car, take a short drive out of Key West and hit up Geiger Key for lunch. This open-air spot has panoramic views of the mangroves and waterways, giving you an authentic Florida Keys vibe. I love the ahi tuna tacos and Hogfish tacos. Pro tip: this restaurant is in the marina, so consider a fishing or boat charter, or go kayaking and paddle boarding through the mangroves before grabbing a bite. It’s the ultimate Keys experience!
Best Dinner in Key West
Louie’s Backyard
This is where I come if I want to dress up and have a waterfront view of the Atlantic Ocean. Just make sure to make a reservation in advance to secure your spot! I like to arrive early and grab a glass of champagne on their lower deck that extends over the water. It’s the perfect spot to snap some photos before your meal. While I haven’t had it myself (I usually get one of their specials), I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about their Shrimp & Grits. I recommend making reservations.
Thirsty Mermaid
I love this restaurant’s cozy atmosphere and nautical décor. The menu has a variety of dishes, including oysters, ceviche, and steak, but their mussels are my favorite! They also have a good selection of wine and beer.
Seven Fish
This restaurant is a must for foodies visiting Key West. It’s known for its commitment to fresh ingredients and innovative dishes, like House Made Gnocchi with mahi-mahi and the Yellowtail Snapper Curry. Pair your meal with a craft cocktail or glass of wine for the ultimate dining experience.
Onlywood Grill
A must-visit stop for pizza lovers. Located in the heart of town, this restaurant serves authentic Neapolitan-style pizza baked in a wood-fired oven.
Latitudes
A waterfront restaurant on the private island Sunset Key, just a short ferry ride from Key West. This restaurant offers contemporary American cuisine with a focus on fresh seafood. Reservations are required, and the ferry ride is included. Tip: Request an outdoor table for the best dining experience in Key West when making your reservation. I’d recommend booking an early time to arrive before sunset. That way, you can enjoy the scenic ferry ride and catch the sunset on Key West during dinner.
Cafe Marquesa
This upscale restaurant is known for its elegant atmosphere and sophisticated dining experience. The menu offers fresh seafood, prime meats, and seasonal produce.
The Boat House
This restaurant is a casual waterfront dining spot with a diverse menu that caters to all tastes. While the food is good, I love the opportunity to watch boats come in and out of the marina.
A&B Lobster House
Located in the marina, this upscale restaurant offers a view of the yachts and fishing boats coming in and out. Their menu features fresh seafood and steak and an extensive wine list. If you’re looking for a food recommendation, I love to get the lobster bisque and filet.
El Siboney
This beloved Key West restaurant is renowned for its authentic Cuban cuisine and friendly service.
Square Grouper Bar and Grill
On Cudjoe Key, this is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Whenever I visit, I order the fried mozzarella for my appetizer and the shrimp pasta in a key lime butter sauce for my entrée. Although they don’t take reservations, I like to put my name in and head upstairs to the 420 Lounge for a drink and some live music while I wait. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day in the sun!
*Maven Tip: This restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, but the pasta isn’t featured on the lunch menu. Additionally, it’s usually closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Garbo’s Food Truck
A food truck tucked away in Hanks Hair of the Dog is the perfect spot to have a laid-back meal under twinkling string lights while listening to live music. My personal favorite is the Korean tacos.
Best Coffee in Key West
Cuban Coffee Queen
Known for its authentic Cuban coffee and sandwiches. This is a go-to spot for locals and visitors craving a taste of Cuba. My favorite afternoon pick-me-up is their cortadito.
Baby’s Coffee
This place is hands down my favorite spot to grab an iced coffee on my way back home from the airport or before heading to the beach. I’m a huge fan of their Jet Black roast, and I have bags of it shipped home throughout the year. The coffee is always fresh, and the atmosphere is super chill and relaxed.
Best Dessert in Key West
Better Than Sex
A popular dessert restaurant known for its decadent desserts and romantic atmosphere
Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe
Known for their key lime pies and other key lime-infused desserts. This is a must for anyone craving a taste of authentic key lime pie.
Best Cocktails in Key West
The Canary Room at the Casa Marina Resort
I highly recommend checking out this bar if you’re looking for a classy spot for after-dinner drinks. I went three times during my last trip to Key West, and every drink I had was amazing, but my favorite drinks were the Hemingway Daiquiri and the Clover Club. They’ve seriously got the best craft cocktails in town. The atmosphere is nice too, so it’s a great place to unwind after a long day in the sun. Definitely worth checking out!
Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen and The Salty Oyster at The Perry Hotel
If you’re staying on or near Stock Island, head to The Perry Hotel for cocktails. There are two bars at the hotel that I love. Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen and Bar is the perfect spot to escape the heat by chilling inside at the bar or sitting in their outdoor seating area while sipping on craft cocktails. I highly recommend their refreshing Cucumber Gimlet.
The Salty Oyster has a more laid-back vibe and overlooks the pool and marina. The Pain Killer is the ideal drink to have while watching the boats coming in and out of the marina.
