Best Food in Charleston For Breakfast
Mercato
Mercato is a great place to grab a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. This place is gorgeous. The outdoor tables are perfect for people-watching, and inside, it’s all tan leather chairs, white marble tables, and brass finishes—so chic.

Babas on Cannon
Babas on Cannon is a cozy spot that brings a European café vibe to Charleston. Whether you’re in the mood for a specialty coffee and pastry to start your day, a fresh salad or sandwich for lunch, or cocktails and wine to unwind in the evening, Baba’s has you covered.
Best Food in Charleston for Lunch
167 Raw Oyster Bar
167 Raw Oyster Bar is one of my favorite spots in Charleston. The nautical vibe is super cute, and the food never disappoints. I love the pastrami’d swordfish sandwich, the tuna burger, and, of course, the oysters. Our bartender (who was fantastic) recommended the Oysters French, which has caviar and creme fraiche, and honestly, it might just be the best oyster topping I’ve tried.
There’s usually a wait since they don’t take reservations, so put your name in and then head around the corner to Bar 167 for a drink while you wait for your table. If you’re looking for the best food in Charleston, 167 Raw should definitely be on your radar.
Leon’s
Leon’s is a cool spot in an old garage with a laid-back vibe. The fried chicken is fantastic, and the hush puppies, oysters, and frozen gin and tonic are all must-tries. It’s a popular place, so expect a wait, but it’s definitely worth it!

The Obstinate Daughter
The Obstinate Daughter has an elevated beachy vibe, this spot is a must-visit. We had brunch and shared the scone platter, beet-cured salmon, and lobster roll—everything was amazing. I’ve heard dinner is just as good as lunch! Make a reservation if you’re planning to go.
Best Food in Charleston for Dinner
Melfi’s
Melfi’s is a stylish Italian restaurant with a great vibe. You really can’t go wrong with any pasta, but I’m a fan of the spicy Caesar salad and the prosciutto and burrata. It’s a fantastic spot for a relaxed yet elevated meal.
The Ordinary
The Ordinary is a lively seafood restaurant and oyster bar set in a stunning 1920s bank. It’s the perfect spot for fresh oysters and a fun vibe!
Husk
Husk didn’t blow me away, but it’s one of those places that everyone seems to rave about, so I wanted to mention it. I can’t say it’s the best food in Charleston, I thought it was a bit bland, but the atmosphere was beautiful. It’s a popular spot, so definitely make a reservation in advance.

Vern’s
Vern’s is a cozy neighborhood spot with eclectic American dishes, offering some of the best food in Charleston. It’s one of Charleston’s hottest restaurants, so definitely make a reservation—30 days in advance if you want a shot at getting in!
Chubby Fish
Ask any Charleston local where you can get the best food in charleston, and chances are, they’ll point you to Chubby Fish. It’s a must-try neighborhood seafood spot, but be ready to wait—they don’t take reservations, and the line starts forming before they open at 5!
Felix
Felix is a lively French spot with a fun, upbeat atmosphere. The burger and fries are delicious. It’s a popular place that’s perfect for a lively night out.

Sorelle
Sorelle is a beautiful, upscale Italian restaurant with white marble and velvet chairs—honestly, one of the prettiest spots in Charleston. The food is good, though I’m not blown away by it. That said, I’d definitely return for the atmosphere and the overall vibe.
Chez Nous
Chez Nous is a cozy neighborhood spot serving delicious European-inspired dishes, with a menu that changes daily. It’s perfect for a date night, but keep in mind—it’s small, so the tables are pretty close together!
Oak Steakhouse
Oak Steakhouse has a classic, traditional steakhouse vibe. The wedge salad here is my favorite—honestly, the bacon is the best I’ve ever had. Every time I’ve been there, the restaurant is full of regulars who know the staff, which gives it such a welcoming neighborhood feel.
Sullivan’s Fish Camp
Sullivan’s Fish Camp is located on Sullivan’s Island, this spot is all about fresh seafood with a laid-back vibe.

Best Places to Get a Cocktail in Charleston
Now that you know the best places to get food in Charleston, let’s talk about the best places to get a cocktail!
Henry’s
Henry’s is so much fun and one of my favorite spots in Charleston. If you’re in town with a group or planning a bachelorette party, it’s a must! They have multiple levels, each offering its own vibe and live music – everything from acoustic to country hits to Motown. There’s something for everyone, and the entire place is energetic!
The Living Room
The Living Room at The Dewberry has a laid-back, mid-century vibe—nothing overly exciting, but the perfect spot to relax and unwind. It’s cozy and quiet, ideal for good conversation. Plus, the dirty martini I had was delicious.

Citrus Club
The Citrus Club at The Dewberry is a pretty rooftop bar. The drinks are good, and the views are definitely worth it. It’s a relaxed spot to enjoy a cocktail and take in the scenery.
The Rooftop at The Vendue
I’m adding The Rooftop at The Vendue to my list because it’s one of those spots everyone loves, but honestly, it’s just okay. I enjoy spending time up there on a sunny day—it’s got a nice vibe—but I wouldn’t say the views or cocktails are anything to write home about. That said, if you’re looking for a casual spot to enjoy an appetizer and a drink (I’d recommend sticking to something simple, like an Aperol Spritz), it could be a nice choice on a beautiful day.
The Gin Joint
The Gin Joint isn’t just for gin lovers—it’s a must-visit for craft cocktail enthusiasts. They have an amazing selection; if you’re unsure what to order, the bartenders will help you create the perfect drink. The atmosphere is dark, warm, and cozy.
Bar 167
Bar 167, just around the corner from 167 Raw, is the perfect spot to grab a drink while you wait for your table—or, honestly, it’s good enough to be its own destination. With fantastic outdoor seating, nautical décor, and a Mediterranean-inspired menu, it’s a relaxed yet vibrant place to enjoy a drink and snacks.
Husk Bar
If you’re dining at Husk, swing by Husk Bar before or after your meal. It’s located in a charming old kitchen house dating back to the 1890s and is the perfect spot to enjoy a craft cocktail.

Doar Bros.
I didn’t make it over to Doar Bros. this time, but every local and bartender I talked to says it’s a must for craft cocktails. It’s definitely on my list for next time!
I hope this guide makes navigating the Charleston food scene a little easier, whether you’re hunting for the best lunch spots, an unforgettable dinner, or just somewhere to grab a killer cocktail.
