Best Time to Visit Charleston
The best time to visit Charleston is between March-May and September-November, when temperatures hover in the 70s and 80s. Just note, hotel prices are higher during these months, and fall also marks hurricane season. If you prefer cooler weather, December through February is a good option, with highs in the low 60s. Summer can get pretty hot, reaching the upper 80s.
Getting Around Charleston
If you’re spending 2 days in Charleston, renting a car isn’t necessary. Charleston is super walkable, and if you want to move a bit faster, Ubers and Lyfts are always an option. Many hotels also offer bikes, which is a fun and easy way to explore the city.

2-Day Charleston Itinerary: Day 1
Arrival
Charleston International Airport is just a quick 20-30 minute ride to downtown. You can arrange a private car, though I found that to be a bit pricey. Thankfully, getting an Uber or Lyft is super easy and affordable, making it a convenient option to get to your hotel without hassle.
Check-In: Where to Stay in Charleston
I recommend staying at The Palmetto Hotel, in the heart of the French Quarter- my favorite neighborhood in the city. I stayed here during my last visit and loved it. The hotel has a perfect blend of eclectic décor and Southern charm, making it the ideal home base for a quick 2-days in Charleston. The lobby bar is always lively, great for a pre- or post-dinner drink, and they offer a light continental breakfast to start your day. The spacious rooms have incredibly comfy beds, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring.
Other Hotel Options in Charleston
If you’re looking for something different, here are a couple of other spots I’d recommend:
Emeline
I stayed at Emeline a few years ago and had an amazing experience. The hotel features stylish, cozy rooms and a trendy bar and restaurant, Frannie and the Fox, where you can sip on craft cocktails. There’s also an outdoor fireplace, ideal for unwinding before or after dinner.
Maven Tip: Request a renovated room for the best experience
Hotel Bennett
The Hotel Bennett offers a truly luxurious experience, with beautifully designed rooms and outstanding service. The chic rooftop bar boasts stunning views, and the glamorous champagne room adds a unique touch. It’s the perfect place for a memorable, upscale stay.

The Dewberry
If you’re after a sleek, modern vibe, The Dewberry is a fantastic choice. With its mid-century design and rooftop bar, Citrus Club, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the city. The cozy Living Room downstairs is a great spot to relax after a busy day.

Lunch and Drinks
Leon’s is the perfect spot for lunch. I first came here on my second trip to Charleston and regretted not visiting on my first! We had plenty of oysters, a fried chicken sandwich, the most amazing hush puppies, and frozen gin & tonics. No 2-day Charleston itinerary is complete without a stop here—its fun, energetic vibe and incredible food make it one of the best restaurants in the city.

After lunch, head to The Dewberry for drinks. You have two great options at this hotel: The Living Room or Citrus Club.
The Living Room offers a laid-back, mid-century vibe—perfect for relaxing and unwinding. It’s cozy and quiet, making it ideal for good conversation. Plus, the dirty martini I had was delicious.

If the weather’s nice, the rooftop at Citrus Club is a must. The drinks are fantastic, and the views are definitely worth it. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail while taking in the scenery.

Dinner and Drinks
Melfi’s is a great choice for dinner. It’s a stylish Italian restaurant with great energy. You can’t go wrong with any of the pasta dishes, but I love the spicy Caesar salad and the prosciutto and burrata.
After dinner, Henry’s is a must! It’s so much fun and one of my favorite spots in Charleston. They have multiple levels, each offering its own vibe and live music – everything from acoustic to country hits to Motown. There’s something for everyone, and the entire place is energetic!
2-Day Charleston Itinerary: Day 2
Breakfast and The Battery
Wake up early and grab a coffee and breakfast croissant from Mercato—this place is gorgeous. The outdoor tables are perfect for people-watching, and inside, it’s all tan leather chairs, white marble tables, and brass finishes—so chic.

After breakfast, walk along the water to The Battery. This is one of my favorite activities in Charleston. You can enjoy Charleston’s historic architecture while taking in beautiful views of the water. Not in the mood to walk? No problem—grab the hotel bikes and explore at your own pace.
Lunch and Exploring
For lunch, go to 167 Raw—hands down, one of the best restaurants in Charleston! This should be on every 2-day Charleston itinerary. The nautical vibe is adorable, and the food is always incredible. I love the pastrami’d swordfish sandwich, the tuna burger, and, of course, the oysters. We had an amazing bartender who recommended the Oysters French, topped with caviar and crème fraîche, and honestly, it might just be the best oyster topping I’ve ever had.
This place is popular, so you’ll probably have to wait for a table. Once you put your name on the list, wander over to Bar 167 for a drink while you wait. It also has nautical vibes and is perfect for a quick pre-lunch drink.
167 Raw is located on King Street, a popular shopping destination. After lunch, it’s the perfect time to explore the shops. If shopping is your thing, you’ll find plenty to check out, but honestly, I’m not into shopping and couldn’t wait to escape the crowds.
If you’re like me, head over to Shem Creek, just a ten-minute drive from downtown Charleston. It’s a great spot to walk the boardwalk or go kayaking. The area is also lined with excellent waterfront restaurants, so I recommend grabbing a drink at Saltwater Cowboys or Red’s after you’re done exploring.

Dinner and Drinks
Chubby Fish is a great restaurant for your last night in Charleston. It should be on every 2-day Charleston itinerary. Ask any Charleston local where to find the best food in the city, and chances are, they’ll point you here. This neighborhood seafood spot is a must-try, but be prepared to wait—they don’t take reservations, and the line starts forming before they even open at 4 PM!
I recommend putting your name on the list at Chubby Fish and then heading next door to their bar, Seahorse, for a cocktail while you wait.
If you want an alternative spot, Husk is an option. It didn’t blow me away, but it’s one of those places that everyone seems to rave about, so I wanted to mention it. I can’t say it’s the best food in Charleston, I thought it was a bit bland, but the atmosphere was beautiful. It’s a popular spot, so definitely make a reservation in advance if you plan on coming here.

The Gin Joint is perfect for after dinner drinks. Whether you’re a gin lover or not, this place is a must-visit for any craft cocktail enthusiast in Charleston. The atmosphere is dark, warm, and cozy—perfect for a relaxing start to your night.
Charleston is the perfect spot for a quick, memorable getaway. This 2-day Charleston itinerary covers the best food, sights, and experiences the city has to offer, from vibrant restaurants to beautiful historic streets. With its mix of charm, great food, and Southern hospitality, you’ll leave already planning your next visit.
